Guest Comment: The invention of the PC and the Internet sparked a digital revolution that changed the world. The emergence of mainstream artificial intelligence (AI) is another inflection point that takes us into uncharted territory, including how best to navigate this next generation-defining journey.
The answer lies in recognizing the magnitude of AI’s challenges, risks, and potential benefits. and foster long-term collaboration to unlock the true value of AI, ethically and for the benefit of all.
Here we look at five ways to regulate and manage AI while considering its transformative potential.
1. make it safe and collaborative: Collaboration across borders and industries is critically needed to develop policies that unleash the power of AI in an ethical and human-centered manner. With regulatory approaches to AI at risk of fragmentation across borders, the time is now to explore collaborative synergies in the same spirit as those developed to date. US-EU Technology and Trade Council; OECD, WEF, G7 and national policies such as Australia’s eight voluntary AI principles. This is not just an issue for policymakers and industry leaders, but for nations and peoples globally. This is very important and very important work.

2. Integrate: Australian and international policymakers should take the following approach as they consider AI governance in the coming years. shared, secure, sustainable. At Dell Technologies, we use these fundamental principles in our approach to AI.
3. share: This represents an integrated, multi-sector, global approach built around existing technology policies and compliance regulations, including those governing privacy.
Four. let’s be safe: A secure approach to AI means focusing on security and trust at every level, from the infrastructure to the output of machine learning models. Always ensure that AI remains a force for good while protecting it from threats and treating it like a highly valuable asset.
Five. make it sustainable: A sustainable approach presents an opportunity to leverage AI while protecting the environment, minimizing emissions, and prioritizing renewable energy sources. AI is the most intensive and demanding technology we have ever seen, and we need to invest in it to make it sustainable.
Rapid advances in mainstream AI require collaboration. Designing appropriate guardrails based on globally agreed principles, such as climate governance established by the World Economic Forum, will help ensure that AI technologies are used responsibly, ethically, and with the potential risks they pose. You can ensure that it is developed with due consideration.
It is our collective responsibility to shape the future of AI through thoughtful regulation that balances innovation, the well-being of society, and the protection of individual rights. No AI project in the world is based on a single technology. This includes storage and networking, compute, and integration. All of this must be supported by peace of mind and trust. With a shared, secure, and sustainable approach, we will jointly maximize the potential of AI to benefit everyone.
