In 2023, according to preliminary data, natural gas supplies in the European Union fell to 12.8 million terajoules, a 7.4% decrease compared to 2022, representing the lowest value since 1995.
Even sharper declines were recorded for coal: brown coal supplies fell by 24.2% to 222,840 million tons, and hard coal supplies fell by 20.4% to 130,437 million tons. Both numbers are the lowest recorded since the start of the data series.
Regarding oil and its products, the total supply reached 526,862 thousand tons, recording a decrease of 1.5% compared to 2022.
Renewable energy supplies increased by 4.4% compared to 2022, reaching about 10.9 million terajoules in 2023.
