After nearly three years of waiting, Crystal City Waterpark is scheduled to reopen next week, JBG Smith announced yesterday.
The newly renovated private 1.6-acre park will feature nine restaurant kiosks, a cocktail and oyster bar, seating areas, public art installations, new water features including a water wall, and a live performance stage.
“The water park is a manifestation of our vision for National Landing as a premier 18-hour community that warmly welcomes families, workers, students and visitors of all ages,” said Kai, JBG Smith Chief Development Officer. Reynolds said in a press release.

After delaying the original proposal due to concerns about pedestrian and bicycle safety, the Arlington County Commission approved Construction of the park was planned for March 2021, and construction began in March 2022.
Previously, the park had small food and beverage kiosks, but the new version features nine kiosks for a variety of food vendors, with a focus on “local, minority and women-owned businesses.” It was done.

In addition to the kiosk, there is a new cocktail and oyster bar named “.water bar” is located on the water wall at the back of the park.
The restaurant is operated by Atlanta-based hospitality group STHRN and will feature a raw bar and an extensive cocktail list, JBG Smith said. STHRN also plans to open a location of his Crush Pizza, a New York-style pizzeria.
“We’re excited to bring Waterbar’s deliciousness to life through unique, delicious cocktails and deeply immersive East Coast flavors,” STHRN partner Elizabeth Feichter said in a release.
The park is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, but individual vendor hours may vary.
It can also be used as a “sweep stroll” zone where you can stroll around the space while drinking alcohol. The Village at Shirlington and the West Post (formerly Pentagon Row) have “sip and stroll” zones.
The water park isn’t the only public space being upgraded. JBG Smith is also building a new restaurant in nearby private park space at 2121 Crystal Drive.

Initially, Surreal was aiming for a “soft opening” in August, but a spokesperson told ARLnow that there was “no update” on the opening at this time.
The water park and Surreal, along with Amazon’s second headquarters and other redevelopment projects, will triple the number of retail businesses in Crystal City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard (collectively known as National Landing). JBG Smith says.
