Amid rumours flying that a Resident Evil 9 announcement is imminent, Capcom has confirmed that the next installment in the renowned survival horror series is currently in development.
Development is being led by Resident Evil 7 biohazard director Isao Nakanishi, who confirmed the sequel’s existence while talking about the game’s mobile release.
“It was really hard to figure out what to do after that. [Resident Evil 7]”But I found it. To be honest, I feel it’s quite fulfilling. I can’t give you any details yet, but please look forward to that day,” Nakanishi said.
Nakanishi has a long history with Resident Evil. In addition to Resident Evil 7, which he helped revive the series in 2017, Nakanishi also served as director for Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D and the original Resident Evil Revelations games for the Nintendo 3DS. He also served as a designer on Resident Evil 5.
Rumors of a possible Resident Evil 9 announcement have circulated throughout 2024, but Capcom has kept it under wraps for now. In May, IGN also corroborated reports of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remakes. The company’s most recent releases include Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village, both of which were Game of the Year contenders in their respective years.
In addition to confirming the development of a new Resident Evil game, Capcom also announced details of a new Kunitsuga demo and a release date for Dead Rising: Deluxe Remastered during its Summer Showcase. You can find out more about other big games coming in 2024 here.
