As fall approaches, nothing brings families together like a good meal. Looking forward to the upcoming holidays, I’m already planning the menu for family gatherings. There are several recipes I would like to try, and there are many ways to make it. Does my family enjoy some recipes better than others? I also like to switch things up a bit and try new dishes. Which dishes are best to complement my usual family staples? If you too are facing this conundrum, what better way to make and taste new recipes than by attending recipe exchange events? There’s no way. You may discover your family’s new favorite dish.
The Rowan Public Library will host a “Saladpalooza Recipe Exchange” on Saturday, September 16th at 11 a.m. at RPL Headquarters (Salisbury). Adult participants are invited to join other members of the community to celebrate the connections between life, love, family, and food. Since fall greens are in season, participants will be asked to make salads to share. Salads can be served hot or cold, traditional recipes, family favorites, or great new discoveries. Registration is required and each person is limited to one recipe submission.
Submitted recipes will be compiled into a printed booklet for each participant. To be included in the recipe exchange, he must submit a copy of the recipe by Wednesday, September 13th. To register and submit a recipe, contact Lyndsey.Maloney@rowancountync.gov.
If you want to try a new recipe, visit lidiasitaly.com for salad inspiration or check out a virtual author talk with Lidia Bastianich. The award-winning television host and best-selling author talks about her memoir, “My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and Food.” The book depicts Lidia’s childhood growing up in Pula, a city on the Istrian peninsula of Croatia, learning the techniques of Italian cooking from her grandmother. The book then follows her journey as her family heads to a refugee camp in Trieste, Italy, and then to the United States, where she becomes one of the country’s most respected chefs and businessmen. Her heartwarming, deeply personal, and powerfully inspiring story surrounds Lydia’s close-knit family and her dedication and boundless passion for food. As a special bonus, Lydia talked about her latest cookbook, From Lydia’s Family’s Table to Yours: Over 100 of Her Recipes Made with Love for Every Occasion: A Cookbook.
