FARGO — The Fargo Park District is saying goodbye to its historic headquarters.
The parks board unanimously agreed at its July 9 meeting to sell the Depot Building at 701 Main Ave. to MBN Properties LLC for $1.2 million.
“Obviously, this is a beautiful historic building located in the heart of downtown Fargo,” said board member Aaron Hill, “and we feel comfortable knowing we can leave it in the care of an organization that will take good care of it and use it for good.”
The sale is expected to close in December of this year, according to documents, but inspections of the building are still pending.
“When you sell property, you run into things you never expected,” board member Jerry Rostad said.
Tony Yukel, vice president of MBN Engineering, said his team will renovate the building and turn it into the company’s new headquarters.
“We thought this would be the perfect place for us to live permanently,” Yukel said.
He said the building is already mostly occupied by offices, and he hopes to add more offices and improve the building overall.
Yukel said the iconic train outside the station is an artistic landmark for downtown, and MBN needs to assess its needs for the space and speak with the parks department before making any decisions about the train’s future or the future of the fountain on the west side of the building.
“We just want to make sure we’re taking good care of (the building’s history),” Yukel said.
The park district’s use of the building ended with the completion of new park district offices at the Fargo Parks Sports Center, 6100 38th St S. Staff relocated on May 1, 2024, and the building opened to the public at the end of May.
