Samsung’s mobile phone division abandoned the big offer it unveiled a while ago. It also appears that the days of the company saving its first big phone news of the year for the weeks leading up to Mobile World Congress appear to be over.
The latest Unpacked event is set for January 17 – a week away and changing after CES wraps. If past is precedent (as it almost always is), we’ll get our first official look at Samsung’s new flagship, the Galaxy S24.
Last year’s event, held at the beginning of February, saw the launch of three major variants of the S23, along with a few Galaxy Book laptops. Due to Samsung, the phone leaks have been going on for a few months now.
The S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra offerings don’t stray too far from their predecessors. These devices are expected to have 6.2-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.8-inch displays, respectively. The S24 and S24+ appear to have three rear cameras, while the Ultra bumps it up to a quad array, including a 200MP sensor.
The Ultra also retains much of the DNA the device inherited from the Galaxy Note line, including square edges and S Pen functionality. It is also believed that the ultra-premium model will get a titanium option, just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max that preceded it.
Despite being among the first devices to be powered by Qualcomm’s more powerful and power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, leaked pricing sheets suggest a lower price point in Europe, which could be good news for potential buyers everywhere. .
This time, the event will be held in the South Bay. It starts at 10 a.m. PT and will be available to stream here. If you want to reserve the device unseen until January 16, Samsung will be offering a $50 “reserve credit” for pre-orders.
