“Seeing how a low pony affects my tips as a server,” text overlays the video, with the creator confidently modeling her hairstyle for the camera.
TikTok suddenly switches to a close-up of the creator’s shadowy face. “If you want to make money, don’t wear a low pony,” says the text overlay.
There seems to be something to the idea that hairstyle affects tipping. Many commenters (mostly women) offered advice on “why servers are the most bankable”.
One person commented, “I hate to admit there’s money in braids.”
“High pony definitely wins chips,” wrote another.
“I serve five times a week with a pouffe, two buns, a moving butterfly clip, and a really handmade ribbon in my hair that you made. And I get so many compliments.” viewers commented.
“Wearing pigtails gives you all the hints…men are weirdos,” wrote another. One person agreed, adding, “Girly Pop has pigtails. They bring SM money.”
One comment said, “Making braided ponies makes less money, but making raw ponies makes more money. I guess it’s up to the customer, but I feel they see me as unprofessional.” Masu.”
“I think anything that draws attention to the eye. Try a high pony with two hairs out,” suggested one commenter.
The creator accepted the suggestion, tried out the hairstyle at work, and posted the results in the following video. Flashes a stack of bills with satisfaction.

Earlier, @faithgeorge_ posted a similar experiment on TikTok Use Space Buns instead of Low Ponies. She said she was sent home early in the shift because her work was late, but she received a $20 tip for two $50 tabs.
This isn’t the first time a creator has experimented with different hairstyles while working as a server. A creator named Grace (@aliveandwellandsexy) trending in 2021 Try pigtails, clean up with hints, According to Buzzfeed. This has sparked trends and conversations about men’s reactions to women working in the service industry.
Last year, the trend revived, with women working as bartenders and exotic dancers reporting that they got more tips for wearing pigtails. (Texas Roadhouse servers in high ponies won the most chips.)
A server named Lisa Stirling who joined the trend told NBC News in 2022“Unfortunately, women are exposed to fetishes in different ways depending on how they look.”
