A small asteroid will hit Earth on January 21, 2024
Midnight January 21, 2024 – 90 minutes before impact over Europe – NASA Said A small asteroid will hit the Earth’s atmosphere. And it was a hit. The space rock crashed into the sky above Berlin, Germany, as planned. The asteroid was only about 1 meter (3 feet) in diameter. It posed no danger to people on the ground. However, it is possible that the asteroid scattered small meteorites across the landscape.
In the hours since then, footage of the fireball over Germany continued to flood social media.
asteroid hunter Christian Sarnetsky Researchers in Budapest, Hungary discovered the asteroid shortly before the impact. Sarnetsky has become famous for last-minute discoveries like this one, including the discovery of an asteroid that crashed into France in 2023 and an asteroid that crashed into the Arctic Ocean in 2022.
The small asteroid was tentatively named Sar2736. The International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center then gave it an official label. 2024 BX1.
