PlayStation Portal is almost complete. some kind of This marks Sony’s return to the mobile gaming market. We were lucky enough to get our hands on a unit that lets you experience PlayStation 5 on the go, just in time for the November 15th release date. But before we turn on this new device for the first time, we’ll walk you through the unboxing experience and our first impressions of its design.
Sony kept things relatively simple here, sliding an inner cardboard box out of a printed sleeve and inside it a wrapped portal, some instructions and a USB-C charging cable on each end. Contains.
The first thing that strikes you when you look at Portal is its size. Featuring an 8-inch LCD screen, the Portal has DualSense grips on either side, perfectly retaining the shape and feel of a PS5 controller. If you compare this with other mobile devices, you can clearly see how big it is. It’s about the same size as a Steam Deck. Check out our unboxing video comparison. Push Square YouTube Channel.
All the buttons and features found on the regular DualSense are here, except for the touchpad, with the mute and home buttons remapped to the top left and top right of the screen. Along the top of the screen is the speaker, and slightly behind it are the power, pairing, and volume buttons. Behind the screen there is a USB charging slot and his 3.5 mm audio jack.
Portals can look a little odd given the form factor, but feel is more important than look. Devices like the Nintendo Switch and Backbone One can become quite uncomfortable after long periods of use. From our limited experience, the Portal would rate as one of the most comfortable handheld devices on the market.
For now, we can only comment on the design and feel of the console after getting our hands on it, so check back to our site for a full review as we get closer to Portal launch. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the build quality and size of the portal and can’t wait to see it in action.
