Spotify Announced today The launch of a new Basic paid plan that offers a small discount if you discontinue access to audiobooks. The Basic option, which costs $10.99 per month, includes all of Spotify’s music perks, including ad-free playback, but doesn’t add any additional audiobook listening minutes each month.

Spotify’s standard premium individual plan, which costs $11.99, includes ad-free playback and 15 hours of audiobook listening time each month from a catalog of more than 250,000 titles. Previously, Spotify automatically bundled audiobook access into its lowest-tier plan, preventing customers from choosing a cheaper plan that didn’t include audiobook access.

Spotify raised its base price from $10.99 to $11.99 in June to “provide the best experience for our users,” but the new basic plan will allow customers who don’t want the audiobooks feature to stay on the service for the previous $10.99 monthly fee.

Spotify’s new $10.99 per month option is on par with Apple Music’s $10.99 per month, so as a basic music subscription service, Spotify is no longer a dollar more expensive than Apple Music.

Prices for the other plans remain unchanged: Duo costs $16.99 and Family is $19.99. Spotify also has a $9.99/month plan that includes 15 hours of audiobooks with ad-supported music.
