Tesla’s warning to Cybertruck dealers and speculators appears to have come back.
One of the first Cybertruck buyers claims they discovered Tesla’s $50,000 legal threat back in the electric truck’s order agreement. On Friday, they posted a screenshot of the item for Cybertruck Owners Club Forum. It rewrites punitive rules that Tesla appeared to roll back in November.
The screenshot indicates that Cybertruck buyers must agree not to sell the vehicle within the first year of ownership without obtaining permission from Tesla. spotted before ElectricThe text adds that the automaker “may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of ownership of the vehicle or seek liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater.”
The language mirrors the seller clause that first sparked controversy about a month ago.
Tesla has not commented one way or another on the apparent legal threat. It’s also not clear whether the restrictions will apply to all Cybertrucks, or just the first production version, which Tesla calls the “Foundation Series.”
However, Tesla has taken steps to discourage speculators and sellers in the past. That includes Put some buyers on “Don’t sell the list“.
Tesla delivered the first few Cybertrucks nearly two weeks ago, during a live-streamed event that provided some updates on the massive electric truck.
