The bad news: If you want a Cybertruck under $40,000, it’s not coming next year, if ever.
Although Tesla plans to increase production of its electric pickup truck in 2024, the company clarified today after a spectacular delivery event that the cheapest version of the Cybertruck will be available In 2025.
Tesla first announced a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck model in 2019, with a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds and a range of 250 miles. Originally, the automaker said it would cost $39,900. Then came the pandemic and more delays, thanks at least in part to the Cybertruck’s solid steel frame.
The seasons have changed, and so have Tesla Cybertruck price estimates. The automaker now estimates it will charge $57,390 — or $49,890 after $7,500 in federal tax credits. That’s more than the starting price of the Ford Lightning Or the Silverado EV (both around $50,000).
Tesla will likely eventually lower the starting price of its small car, just as it has done with its other electric cars. But in 2025, a $39,900 Cybertruck certainly seems out of reach.
