Additionally, FromSoft is happy to “explore such ideas for future games.”
Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is in favor of playing Elden Ring cooperatively, even if it means using mods to get along “from start to finish.”
In an interview PC GamerWhen asked about his thoughts on the efforts of the modding community to tweak Elden Ring’s features, including not only boss battles but also a seamless cooperative mode that allows players to team up, FromSoftware’s Miyazaki had this to say:
Miyazaki acknowledged that the development team intentionally designed a “casual” system where players “join, beat the boss, and leave,” but that it wasn’t meant to “actively oppose or disparage” Tarnished players who prefer to face the horrors of The Lands Between with their friends.
“The desire to play the entire game together is not something we actively want to oppose or downplay,” Miyazaki said. “At the time of Elden Ring, we simply wanted a looser, more casual style – join in, beat the boss and leave – that didn’t impose any technical limitations on the player, so to speak, but rather allowed them to complete this focal point and then move on.”
“But that doesn’t mean we won’t explore other ways for you and your friends to play in full co-op from start to finish. It doesn’t mean we won’t explore ideas like that in future games.”
To date, Elden Ring has set an astounding record, having shipped 25 million copies worldwide.
Elden Ring was released in February 2022 and was an instant hit, selling 12 million copies in just over two weeks, with publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware describing the sales as “a great start to a new franchise.”
By May, sales had topped 13.4 million copies, and by August, that number had risen further to 16.6 million copies. A year after Tarnished’s debut, it was revealed that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies.
