Available today on Amazon 1 ft (0.3 m), 1.6 feet (0.5 meters)and Length 3.3 feet (1 meter) Selling for $23, $27, and $33 respectively, the new cables obviously don’t do much on their own — you’ll need a computer with a Thunderbolt 5 port and a dock or some kind of accessory to actually use them.
However, at the moment the only laptop with a Thunderbolt 5 port is the Razer Blade 18, and even then there’s no warranty. $4,500 Mercury Edition You’ll need a laptop spec to get that port (for that money, you’ll also get an Intel i9 and a mobile RTX 4090).
And unless you own two None of the peripherals we saw at CES on any of these laptops are ready yet, so there’s probably nothing you can do with a Thunderbolt 5 cable. Belkin, J5Create, OWC, and Sabrent haven’t listed any of these Thunderbolt 5 products on their websites yet, and Hyper hasn’t released any yet. $400 Dock It will show as out of stock with a “Sign up to be notified” button.
But if you do I have two identical $4500 Razer laptops, can I use Thunderbolt Share to transfer files between them at amazing speeds? Would anyone like to know? If not, I guess I can use it as a USB4 / Thunderbolt 4 cable for now.
