The scenario is: You don’t own a copy of The Last of Us Part 2, but you might want to check it out now, as the “remastered” re-release on PS5 has added some new improvements (DualSense’s Support, Lost, etc.) levels, or the new No Return Roguelike mode). The problem is, it’s still expensive for new buyers Manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $49.99. While this doesn’t come close to the original $70 price tag for The Last of Us Part 1 when it released on PS5, it’s still a hefty cost to consider.
But don’t worry, at least for now there is a solution. Your best bet is to jump on the upgrade path. If you own her PS4 version (digital or physical) of The Last of Us Part 2, you can get a remastered digital copy for $10. So all you have to do is find a relatively cheap copy of The Last of Us Part 2. There are plenty of options online and at thrift stores, but if you want a quick and easy option, you can find it at Walmart right now. Game restocked for just $20 (see here).
If you purchased a physical copy of the PS4 version, you’ll need to insert the PS4 disc every time you want to play the remastered version on PS5. It’s a bit of a headache, but for someone new to the series looking to play the remastered version, spending $30 versus $50 is a reasonable savings. All-digital owners are unfortunately out of luck this time.
Another thing to note is that retailers like Walmart and Best Buy are starting to be a little less favorable when it comes to physical copies of games. Therefore, at a price of $20, the game is likely to sell out. If you want a physical copy of The Last of Us Part 2, we recommend getting it as soon as possible.
“The Last of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece that advances the original’s gameplay, cinematic storytelling, and rich world design in almost every way,” said Jonathan Dornbusch of the original PS4 release. I wrote this in my 10/10 review.
In his latest column for PlayStation Beyond, Simon Cardy also writes: “Two of PlayStation’s greatest hitters have recently ventured into roguelike territory, albeit with different philosophies.
“The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s No Return stands firmly in the ‘gameplay is king’ position, offering tense stealth combat without any narrative flourishes. We offer showcases. ”
“God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, on the other hand, was a more story-focused experience, and I found it more satisfying as a result. That’s not to say that Naughty Dog’s attempt was a bad one. “I’ve had a fun few hours playing No Return, and for me there’s only one clear winner here, and he’s got a big beard and a huge axe.”
