It’s been a very long day for Xbox and those who cover Xbox (confused? Check out our article on recent Xbox leaks). That’s why small pieces of news like this are often overlooked. Minecraft players, a nifty patch update with some great quality of life improvements and features is rolling out to all users on all Bedrock Edition platforms.
Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.20.30 is a small release, but it includes a number of tested features and over 100 fixes for community-reported issues. While we wait for the next news from Xbox’s Mojang Studios, this is a good step for his one of the best Xbox games.
A summary of the biggest changes in the 1.20.30 patch update is below, but the complete changelog is available at: minecraft website.
- Unlock recipes. The Recipe Book finally has the same features that Java Edition players have had for years, specifically unlocking new recipes as you collect new resources and ingredients. Players can now be notified when new recipes are available, making it easier to bring new players into the game or inform veteran players of new content.
- Players can disable recipe unlocking on the “Create a World” screen and play the game as they did before the update.
- Recipe search has been improved. Search queries now match only the beginning of the word in the item name, making it easier to search for specific recipes in your recipe book. For example, searching for “tor” returns all variants of torches, but not detectors. This search also supports unlocking recipes and can return locked recipes.
- Crawling. Yes, you can now crawl within Minecraft. Another feature carried over from Java Edition, players can now easily crawl under single-block gaps, making real tunnels completely doable.
- There are countless other changes as well. This update includes a ton of fixes and improvements, including improved vanilla parity, increased amount of diamonds at lower levels, and more. This is a long list, but please see the full changelog linked above for more details.
Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.20.30 can now be installed on supported devices including Xbox, Windows PC, PlayStation, Switch, Android, and iOS. Not a very exciting update, but ok. Minecraft Live 2023 is official, and you can expect to hear more about the future of Minecraft there, including what the next major Minecraft content update will be.
Of course, this also means a whole new mob vote. During this period, the Minecraft community will vote on one of three mobs to be added to Minecraft in the next major content update. Last year’s Mob Vote winner was Sniffer, and we’re looking forward to seeing what options we have this year.
