LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Some of you may have taken home economics.
Some students at Tates Creek High School are taking advantage of a type of cooking class.
“This is my second year teaching here, so this is my second year being able to do this,” Kayla McGlone said.
This is not a home economics or cooking class. This is Creek Catering.
“I think we’re the biggest path forward,” McGlone said. “There’s a lot of interest in this.”
Students create menus, help with preparation, learn to cook, and follow recipes. They also calculate the price of the plates and deliver them to teachers’ classrooms.
“So this is a way for them to get real work-based experience while still in high school,” McGlone said.
She said the students were beginning to gain experience in the food and beverage industry and the program helped them with the interview process.
