Ah, Epcot. We love you, but sometimes it can be a little frustrating. We love World Showcase, but why do we have to wait until 11am for the pavilion stuff to open? And when is the Imagination Pavilion going to get its long-awaited makeover?
Don’t get us wrong, Epcot is one of our favorite parks. It has great rides like Soarin’, Living with the Land, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The food is amazing, including the pizza at Via Napoli. There are tons of character meet-and-greets, including Anna and Elsa. But recently, I noticed something new popping up at World Showcase, and it made me a little sad.
So here’s the situation: For years, Epcot had been under construction. Large parts of the park were closed and closed to the public. Disney was touting an “Epcot Transformation” that would bring new rides, shops, and experiences to the park.
Now, in early June, the project was completed with the grand opening of Communicore Hall and Communicore Plaza. Finally, all the construction walls were removed. It was a spectacular sight.
As you may remember, many Epcot fans were not happy when Disney put up a barge at World Showcase Lagoon for the old Harmonious Nighttime Spectacular. Eventually, Disney removed the barge and fans could breathe a sigh of relief.
Later, when the last of the World Celebration construction walls were removed during the grand opening of the Communicore Hall, It seemed as though Epcot was finally free of construction walls, scaffolding, and other annoying and unsightly things. For five minutes everything was great.
Disney later announced that it would close the Test Track for long-term renovations. I discovered a new architectural wall in the Canada Pavilion. Suddenly, we were back where we started.
What? You thought construction on Epcot was done? Think again. Disney hasn’t made any official announcements about what’s going on behind the construction walls at the Canada Pavilion, but whatever it is, hopefully it won’t take long.
Many people dislike construction walls because, firstly, they don’t look very good, but more importantly, Often times, key passageways are blocked, forcing detours to be made, which can significantly increase the number of steps on your journey.
It may not seem like a big deal, but after walking All In the skies above Disney World The thought of having to take a detour can be quite frustrating. Trust us.
Let’s be honest, we know there are worse things than a weird construction wall, and EPCOT will look even more beautiful once that wall is (eventually) torn down, but if you were planning on visiting EPCOT and enjoying a wall-free experience, we’re sorry to have to break the news to you.
In the meantime, weβre always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned.
