TikTok is testing a new “AI Song” feature that uses artificial intelligence to create songs based on prompts users enter, the company confirmed to TechCrunch. AI Song is an experimental feature and is currently only available to a select number of users. This feature is designed to be used for fun, not to try to create the next viral song.
AI Song uses Bloom, a large language model, to generate lyrics based on text prompts, the company told TechCrunch. The lyrics are then paired with music from the previously saved catalog created within TikTok.
Tik Tok user Jonah Manzano He posted a detailed explanation of the new feature to show how it works. According to the video, AI Song begins by asking users to “enter a prompt to create a song.” TikTok offers some suggested prompts like “Go to concerts,” “Fresh start,” and “Cuddle pets.” Or you can enter your own claim. After entering the prompt, the app will start creating your song.
After a few seconds, the app will then generate lyrics related to your prompt and pair them with the music. You can change the vibe of the song by switching between “pop”, “EDM” and “Hiphop”. The end result is a strange song with lyrics based on the text entered.
According to the video, the app notes that “there are rules to follow” when using AI Song. For example, this feature cannot be used to exploit or harm minors or post false or personal information that harms others. It may not be used to defame, impersonate, or harass others.
As with any other experimental feature, it is unknown when or if AI Song will be rolled out more widely. TikTok noted that it may change the name of the feature in the future.
TikTok isn’t the only company that has rolled out tools to help users create music for short videos. A few months ago, YouTube launched the “Dream Track” feature that allows content creators to create 30-second audio clips with AI. Users can create a soundtrack with the voices of select artists, including Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, Troye Sivan, and Papoose.
It’s worth noting that while TikTok’s new feature isn’t designed for the music industry, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, launched a free music production app in the US last June to help musicians create and edit audio in a mobile-like way. Smart digital audio workstations (DAWs).
With Ripple, users can sing or hum a melody directly in the app, which will then use machine learning to expand the melody and turn it into a musical song. The app model was trained on music licensed or owned by ByteDance. Ripple allows users to easily record, trim, trim, and edit audio files on their mobile devices.
The new AI Song feature comes as TikTok delves into the music business. Last year, it launched its own subscription-only music streaming service called TikTok Music in select countries to compete with companies like Spotify and Apple Music.
Although TikTok hasn’t shared any details about when it plans to launch its streaming service in the US, it’s been over a year since ByteDance. File a trademark application With the US Patent and Trademark Office for a service called “TikTok Music,” so we can probably expect it to launch at some point.
