From King Charles’s official coronation dish to a purple milkshake, our search for this year’s trending recipes will reveal some interesting dishes.
Every December, Google shares a list of Australia’s top recipe search trends for the year. Every year, the list gets a little random, and this year’s list is no different. The results for 2023 are a particularly head-scratching mix of TikTok trends, royal recipes, and nostalgic travel, and let’s be honest: What are Good Food’s most popular recipes of 2023? There is also no correlation (more on that soon).
From King Charles’ coronation dish to some seriously risqué-sounding cocktails, here are the recipe searches that will skyrocket in 2023. Frown (or grimly shake your head) and enjoy.
1. Coronation Quiche Recipe
Was it just this year that Prince Charles transitioned from prince to king and saw a huge spike in egg sales in the process? Due to its affordability, adaptability, and ease of sharing, the spring vegetable-filled quiche made a brief high-profile resurgence from April to May, and was declared by the King as the official coronation dish. , even we humans can now eat it. Like a king deciding the budget of beef eaters. Whatever comes next, will it be a new Beatles song?
2. Grimace Shake Recipe
For years, I thought the most searched recipe of the year was one-pot chicken (or Cypriot grain salad). How naive! In 2023, it’s all about the purple blob from Maccas and his thick, fruity shakes. The Grimace Shake made a brief but memorable appearance on US McDonald’s menus only during June and July, and FOMO-scared Australians can’t stop Googling (and TikToking) the recipe. Ta. To avoid having to do the same thing, just mix together vanilla soft serve, frozen blueberries, strawberry jam, and a little milk. We love it (apparently).
3. Coronation chicken recipe
This year is a banner year for royally approved recipes, with a recipe created for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 revived for her son’s special day.according to bbc.coma recipe originally known as “Poulet Reine Elisabeth”. The chicken is boiled in water and wine and then coated in a creamy sauce consisting of mayonnaise, whipped cream, apricot and tomato puree, curry powder, lemon, pepper and red wine. Hmm! This dish was traditionally served with a well-seasoned salad of rice, green peas, and green pepper. Or sandwich it between slices of bread to make something like curry chook sanga.
4. CWA ANZAC Biscuit Recipe
The Country Women’s Association (CWA) knows a thing or two about baking, with cookbooks dating back to the 1920s covering all manner of classic Australian dishes, including the amazing ANZAC biscuits . So it’s no wonder we Googled her in droves for her CWA recipes in the days leading up to her ANZAC Day on April 25th. No matter how many times you eat something chewy, crunchy, warm from the oven or fresh from your lunchbox, you’ll never get tired of it. If you can’t wait until next April, here’s our take.
5. Chicken Honolulu Recipe
This sounds like a 1980s Red Rooster meal (quarter barbecue chook, crushed pineapple rings, fries, $4.99), but it’s actually Hawaii’s gooey, tangy Huli Huli Chicken. Is it another name or perhaps Australia’s national dish? Frankly speaking, it’s a mystery.former Ready Steady Cook Presenter Peter Everett joked that when his grandmother lightly grilled Honolulu chicken cooked with canned almonds and pineapple, it was actually Australia’s national dish. Adam and Poe’s great Australian food This year’s SBS TV program. Who should we argue with?
6. Lamb stew recipe
I’m talking now. In 2023, Stew’s long, unrelenting winter has made Prime Minister Collingwood’s pain bearable. The lamb stew is especially noteworthy. From Karen Martini’s slow-cooked lamb stew with barley and vegetable goodness to Daniel Alvaraz’s perfect Persian chickpea and lamb shank stew, we’re enjoying slow-cooked meaty heaven I was there. And if you think it’s just a winter thing, Adam Liau’s summer stew will prove otherwise. It’s the dish that keeps on giving and you keep googling.
7. porn star martini recipe
More than a spicy margarita (actually, don’t do that), the Pornstar Martini might just be the cocktail of 2023, given its millions of views on TikTok and skyrocketing Google searches. Dry Martini fans, look away now. This is a sweet and fruity variety of drinks that is sure to get the party started with its enticing combination of passion fruit liqueur, vanilla vodka, lime juice and champagne or prosecco. Also known as the Passion Fruit Martini, this is the same, but clearly much better.
8. Marie Me Chicken Recipe
The internet says Marriage Me Chicken is so delicious that if you make it for your partner, they’ll want to get married right away, but to me it’s the perfect chicken to leave alive without making it. That seems like a reason. Also known as Tuscan chicken, this simple combination of sun-dried tomatoes, cream and chicken breast (as many comments on Tik Tok remind us) has racked up tens of millions of views and suggestions. I think I have collected. Katrina Meinink’s Creamy Tomato One-Pot Chicken has all the flavors (and more) and none of the hype. Win, win.
9. Chicken and leek pie recipe
The classic golden oldie is having a revival this year, trending on social media and proving that great pies never go out of style. The term “easy chicken leek pie” has been viewed more than 125 million times on TikTok, but it only really requires one recipe. This Karen His Martini Chicken, Leek, and Mushroom Pie is a fairly traditional pie, with an old-fashioned flavor, but creamy and rich, and pairs perfectly with simply tossed salad greens.
10. Modak Recipe
These sweet Indian dumplings, known as modak or modakam, are popular in many Indian states and cultures, and are becoming popular in Australia too, judging by their first appearance on Google’s top list of recipe search terms . We don’t know what caused the sudden Aussie craze, but we’re here for it.
