Eric Trexler
Senior Vice President, U.S. Public Sector, Palo Alto Networks
Eric Trexler predicts that in 2024, one of the biggest challenges for the public sector will be the realization that cybersecurity is national security. Cybersecurity battles are waged every day at the school, town, city, state, and national level. To combat this, nations must move toward automation and orchestration of their cybersecurity defense capabilities.
“Challenges continue to arise from a lack of integration and platform approaches to cybersecurity. It’s time to focus on outcomes, not technology,” Trexler said.
Trexler said that given Cybersecurity Executive Order 14028, which was released in 2021, it will be interesting to see how the country matures by May of this year, the third birthday of this executive order. He said it would be.
“In many places, we are still checking and evaluating activity against the pillars,” he said. “You need to unify your cybersecurity tools by eliminating duplicate purchases, investments between agencies and sub-agencies, and purchasing integrated capabilities. It will be an expensive task to apply.”
There is also a focus on realizing the expectations set by the Executive Order on AI. This is a rapidly evolving field, and government agencies need to work with the right partners to effectively leverage AI according to established timelines. Today, industry will be building AI capabilities into their products, and tomorrow, governments will be building AI based on their data and needs.
Alongside this, we recognize that AI and automation will improve rather than solve the cyber talent gap, but cybersecurity requires staying ahead of today’s threat landscape. AI offers great opportunities, but it must be applied responsibly and used in the right context.
why watch
Trexler and his team are working diligently to address the issues listed above. They understand the cyber landscape and guide governments to navigate complex environments by leveraging cutting-edge technology for tomorrow’s challenges. Without a truly holistic and targeted approach to cybersecurity, it will continue to be an uphill battle for any federal agency to achieve its goals and expectations.
“Eric is a hands-on leader who brings together deep cybersecurity expertise and a keen understanding of the challenges facing our public sector customers,” said BJ Jenkins, president of Palo Alto Networks. “He is a tireless advocate for our customers, partners and his Palo Alto Networks team. When I say ‘I trust Trexler,’ I mean it.” He leads with integrity, integrity and results. ”
