Changes in tax deductions can increase the cost of commuting to work.
Costs for people driving long distances to work could rise by up to hundreds of euros at the beginning of next year, according to sample calculations carried out by the tax administration at the request of the STT.
Petri OrboThe National Congress Party government will work to reduce the maximum deduction for travel expenses, and at the same time the temporary increases approved by the previous government in the tax deduction for travel expenses will end.
Between 2022 and 2023, the maximum tax deduction for travel expenses was €8,400, but now the maximum has returned to €7,000. In addition, the current government plans to gradually increase the deductible amount for travel expenses from 750 to 900 euros from the beginning of the year.
The government will reduce customs duties on transport fuel at the beginning of the year, but this will not be enough to compensate for the changes.
