Platform X, known as Twitter, removed headlines from posts with links a few months ago, but is now bringing them back in a new format.
Now rolled out to Twitter/X’s web client, posts with link previews will now display more than just a preview image and website name. The preview now includes the linked article heading (or web page title), but in a much smaller format.
The preview appears as white text in a black box in the lower left corner of the image preview. This replaces the name of the linked website. This name has been moved to a new line between the link preview and the reply, repost, and “like” buttons. However, it doesn’t work well for all headings due to the small size of the preview. The default size clips more than a few words, and the problem gets worse as the view narrows.
This change is only happening on the web for now, but will likely extend to the iOS app soon. Meanwhile, Twitter/X’s Android app did not stop displaying headlines in their original format.
Originally Twitter/X Headline removed in August That’s because Elon Musk asked publishers to post directly to the platform. But in November, shortly after Musk’s out-of-context posts exposed the problems with removing headlines from previews, he announced he would reinstate them.
