Aug 18 (Reuters) – The United Kingdom’s Health and Safety Agency (UKHSA) announced on Friday that it had detected the country’s first case of COVID-19 variant BA.2.86 in an individual with no recent travel history.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that it is tracking a new variant of the highly mutated virus that causes the novel coronavirus.
This variant has also been identified in Israel, Denmark, and the United States.
