MSI hints at plans to enter mobile market with ‘Dragon’-themed premium game console
update: It looks like we’ve gotten a better look at the MSI handheld game console thanks to the latest photos posted by . @wxnod. Also, based on Reply from Intel Gaming, It looks like MSI may leverage Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs to power the console. Specifications and configuration have not yet been revealed.
The teaser is very brief and gives us a few hints as to what MSI’s upcoming handheld game console will be like. The short video starts with the front of the device showing a design similar to the ASUS ROG Ally and Steam Deck OLED. The dual triggers are lit by RGB-LED and are aesthetically pleasing.
MSI also seems to have focused on the exhaust vents which could highlight the cooling and thermal features of this device. Featuring a “True Gaming” tag, you’ll often see these dual black/red-tone mesh grilles on the back of the product. A large MSI “Dragon” logo can also be seen and it may come with RGB LED illumination.
It’s a little too early to tell whether MSI will choose AMD Ryzen or Intel Core Ultra CPUs to power its handheld game console.
AMD Ryzen CPUs are a popular choice, but Intel Core Ultra is also gaining traction in the handheld gaming console segment. Both CPUs offer very good integrated graphics capabilities that are comparable to each other, and have unique feature sets that provide good support for upscaling technologies such as FSR and XeSS.
The device is expected to be fully unveiled at CES 2024, so we’ll likely find out in the coming days what’s inside this device, when it will be released, and most importantly, how much it will cost .
