Winter weather is expected to disrupt air travel on Tuesday as well.
More than 1,700 flights have already been canceled and 3,700 delayed, according to tracking site FlightAware. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines each canceled more than 300 flights, the site said.
The storm affected most of the country’s airports, from Houston and Chicago, where United Airlines held incoming flights, to New York, where Delta Air Lines held flights to Kennedy Airport.
Flights to Newark and LaGuardia were also slowed or stopped by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Tuesday’s disruption comes on top of more than 3,300 flight cancellations on Monday, the highest number of canceled flights since the 2022 Southwest meltdown, according to FlightAware data. More than 10,000 flights have been canceled since Friday.
United Airlines and Alaska Airlines continue to have cancellations related to the Boeing 737 Max 9 grounding, with United already canceling Max flights through tomorrow. Following the door plug explosion on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, the FAA grounded the aircraft. Alaska Airlines and United Airlines are the only two airlines operating similar aircraft.
More than 1,000 flights have been canceled each day since Friday, with nearly 2,300 flights cancelled, according to FlightAware. About 8,600 flights were canceled between Friday and Monday.
