Following the release of Red Dead Redemption on Switch, Digital Foundry provided a full technical analysis of the game to see how it will perform on Nintendo’s console.
The video states that the Switch version is comfortably better than the 2010 original released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and is at least on par with the PlayStation 4 version. In terms of resolution, it will be native 1080p in docked mode and 720p in handheld mode. So you can expect pretty much the same on the Switch.
The increased resolution over the original release makes the environment look cleaner with fewer jagged edges and blurry visuals. However, one drawback of the Switch version compared to the PS4 is that it only has one alternative option for motion blur. This is certainly an improvement over the default option, but less than the PS4’s “FSR 2” motion blur toggle.
Moving on to performance, the game remains generally As you probably already know, it is fixed at 30fps. Certain moments in the game, such as arriving at the Armadillo Tavern at night or a particularly chaotic firefight at his farm in Ridgewood, drop this to his high 20s. Overall, though, we see solid performance for the most part, even during the more intense encounters in Undead Nightmares.
That’s it! Be sure to check out the video above for more in-depth details. In case you missed it, we also provide our own verdict on the game below. There, it describes Red Dead Redemption as “a simple 2010s port.” It’s a masterpiece without the added features that come with the rather hefty price tag. ”
