Ping Yan, a computer science professor and director of the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity at Binghamton University, State University of New York, says voice cloning fraud will skyrocket in 2024.
“As deepfake technology continues to advance, we expect to see a surge in voice cloning fraud in 2024,” Yang said. “In voice cloning fraud, fraudsters use voice cloning, a type of deepfake technology, to impersonate individuals such as CEOs, government officials, or family members to convince victims to initiate money transfers.”
She predicts the top scams criminals will attempt against consumers in 2024:
– Voice clone scam
– Phishing
– romance scam
– Online shopping scams
– Investment fraud
– charity fraud
