One waiter believes that hairstyle greatly impacts the tip he gets, and he’s taken to social media to prove it. In a series of viral videos, TikTok user Sam McCall (@sammccall0) shares the different hairstyles he tries out during his waiter shifts, as well as the money he takes home each day.
She recorded her hairstyle for three days, making a different amount of tips each day.
“Day 3 of trying out the Server Hair Theory to find ways to earn more tips,” text was overlaid on one of the clips.
In the video, she wore her hair in a messy bun and reported making $392, an amount that was exactly halfway between what she made on two other shifts with different hairstyles.
in Previous Videos She wore her hair down and wore a bandana as an accessory, and her income was low.
“I made $310 (Thursday) with this hairstyle,” text overlaid on the video said.
On Friday, she made $428 by braiding her hair, the most she’d ever made in a single day.

In the comments section, many speculated as to why braids are more popular than other styles.
“As a customer, I would tip more because the hair is kept under control and not mixed into the food from day one. I would probably ask for a different server,” commented Jmc9093.
“I wear braids all the time and would say it’s a staple but I’m really wondering about the correlation of this and wish there was more in-depth research on this,” wrote user Littleghostboyy.
“Two ponytails,” another viewer agreed. “That’s the most.”
“I guess the childish styles get the most tips. It’s gross for guys,” said user Sarah B.
The correlation between hairstyles, especially pigtails and tips, has generated a lot of viral content on TikTok.
Last month, The Daily Dot reported on another TikTok user, Autumn (@autumnsgotaux), who also set out to test the relationship between her hairstyle and the amount of tips she received while serving customers, reporting that she received the most tips when she had her hair in pigtails.
These women are not alone.
Servers who participate in hairstyle challenges often report that they receive the most tips when their hair is in twin tails.
