Which gleaming mobile phone in the Galaxy S series is it? Last week’s poll showed that while it’s still an Ultra, support for the Plus model is increasing, especially for people looking to upgrade from older models.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a moderate upgrade over the S23 Ultra, but that in itself isn’t a huge improvement over the S22 Ultra. So when it comes to the S24 Ultra (and the vanilla S24, which we’ll get to in a moment), about 15% are still using their current Galaxy S smartphones. About the same number of people are considering other flagship products instead.
why? A big reason not to get the S24 Ultra is how expensive it is. The base model is more expensive than the 2023 version in almost every market, and that model was already expensive.
Samsung did some things right, including the flat display. The new Gorilla Glass armor has also been well received. And while sticking solely with Snapdragon was probably a good idea, Exynos looks like it’s going to be impressive this year.
Samsung Galaxy S24+ has also increased in price in some regions, so cost remains a concern for many. However, the savings if you choose Plus over Ultra are quite significant. Other than the camera and S Pen, this is closer to Ultra than any S Plus model since his S20 generation. You might not be convinced that the Exynos 2400 is particularly interesting until you see the review. That said, we think this is a good upgrade path for those with older S+ models.
As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy S24 cannot be considered a worthy upgrade from older vanilla S smartphones. 7 years of support and his LTPO display are certainly nice, but for now he might as well just put up with it and buy an S25 or S26. Prices have come down for vanilla models in most places, but the 8/128GB base configuration feels like Samsung is really giving it a run for its money. There’s no way 7 years of updates, apps, and files could fit into 128 GB. And Plus was upgraded to his 12GB RAM, which is not upgraded and this also has a negative impact on longevity.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is already a hot item in South Korea and India (and probably other markets as well), but we’ll have to wait to see the stats. One Korean airline confirmed that a whopping 60% of pre-orders are for his S24 Ultra, so the Plus isn’t going to dethrone it just yet.
