Boston – In the aftermath of Hurricane Lee Ready to pass off the coast of Massachusetts. Massport is reminding passengers at Logan Airport to be aware of flight conditions.
“We are advising passengers to check with their airline regarding any flight changes due to the storm at this time,” Massport Airlines said in a statement Friday.
Here’s what conditions can expect in Logan, according to WBZ-TV Executive Weather Producer and Meteorologist Terry Eliasen.
Thankfully, the forecast trend is for the center of Lee to pass some distance from the southern New England coastline within the past 24 to 48 hours.
Current estimates are that Lee will pass about 320 miles east of Boston (150 to 175 miles east of Cape Cod) on Saturday morning. At this distance, no significant impact or significant disruption to Logan is expected.
Rain breaks are likely to remain just east of Logan, with only a few occasional showers scraping the coast.
Lee’s wind field will be very large as it passes through our latitudes. As a result, windy conditions are expected in Boston and Logan over the next 24 to 36 hours.
Winds will peak from around 11pm Friday night until around 11am Saturday morning. Wind gusts will top out at about 40 mph during this time frame.
Wind speeds are expected to gradually decrease Saturday afternoon and evening, with maximum gusts averaging 20 to 30 mph.
Of course, as always, if you’re flying into or out of Logan this weekend, you’ll want to be on the lookout for delays. There’s more good news. Other than Lee’s impact in New England, there have been no major weather events in the eastern United States.
Safe travels!
