One of the biggest new additions to the Vanilla World of Warcraft formula in Season of Discovery was the rune carving system, but players are now asking for big changes as the game enters Phase 2.
For those who haven’t played yet, players can use the Rune Carving system to imbue their characters with additional powers and abilities in Season of Discovery. Runes can be found in the open world and can be earned as reputation rewards or by completing quests.

These runes can be carved into armor and can grant additional extremely powerful benefits. For some, these runes are game-changing, allowing your class to operate in entirely new roles such as tank or healer.
Despite appealing to a large number of people, some players are asking for significant changes after this initial phase, believing that they could greatly benefit the gameplay.
Some rune synergies are not possible in current slots
In the post of redditone player shared his desire to see some of the game’s existing runes change slots when the game enters Phase 2.

The reason for this suggestion lies in the effect of the runes themselves. Some runes seem to synergize very well with others, but cannot be used at the same time as they occupy the same slot.

The examples given, which are probably the most egregious at the time of this writing, are Lacerate and Mangle, both of which are very useful for tank druids. Both occupy slots in the glove and cannot be used at the same time.

Other students quickly agreed, citing similar issues in their own classes. “As a hunter, I can understand having Chimera compete with Explosives. But having Lone Wolf compete with Lionheart while offering the option of getting Beast Mastery in a separate slot seems a little incongruous. It seems to me.”
Another added: “The same goes for Arcane Blast, which is basically a Healing Mage’s go-to spin spell and is the only oh-this-instant-heal that competes with rewind time.”

Bear Druid is the least effective tank in the first phase of the Season of Discovery, and the lack of opportunities to play both Lacerate and Mangle also contributes to this. That said, Blizzard has made it clear that things will change significantly from phase to phase, so a druid in bear form could become more viable in time.
