Xbox Live is back online, with Microsoft’s gaming platform returning to service after an outage that took the gaming service down for several hours on Tuesday. In a tweet posted to X on Tuesday evening, the company confirmed that the issue had been resolved.

When the service went down, gamers were unable to log into their profiles and play games on their consoles. Microsoft’s Xbox Status support pageThe “major outage” was first reported at around 2:07pm ET. “You may experience issues signing in to your Xbox profile, being disconnected while signing in, or other related issues. Most games, apps, social activities, and other features that require signing in will be unavailable,” a message about the issue said.
Because users couldn’t log in, they also couldn’t open games that they had downloaded locally on their Xbox.
There’s no word yet on what caused the issue, but when reached for comment, an Xbox spokesperson directed CNET to the company’s Xbox Support account, which has been tweeting similar updates.
Users of the platform were quick to express their outrage over the issue, making “Xbox” the most talked about topic on the X platform in the US.
