Fast fashion retailer Zara has canceled an advertising campaign that prompted calls for a boycott on social media after some customers said it evoked images of the Gaza war.
The campaign, called “The Jacket,” featured images of a model holding a mannequin that appeared to be surrounded by white plastic, shattered drywall and debris, according to CNBC. Zara said the ad, which aims to introduce its new Atelier clothing line, was conceived weeks before the war in Gaza, which began on October 7 after Hamas militants launched a surprise attack. It is said that the photo was taken. Thousands of people died in the conflict.
