In a brief exchange, Pulsifer and White raised the possibility that data, algorithms, or hardware could be spoofed. “So it’s never been covered,” White said.
“I see your point,” Pulsifer replied. “That’s why it’s so important to have and leverage some of the existing technology to prevent that from happening.”
Pulsipher added that Zero Trust actually enables MPE. “It’s counterintuitive, but in some ways zero trust enables MPE,” he said, to which White responded, “I agree 100%.”
Patrick Perry, Zscaler’s chief technology officer for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community, took a different stance, saying, “The foundations of Zero Trust are actually 100% aligned with MPE.”
Perry said the whole Zero Trust principle is that “people and data aren’t always together in the same building, they’re not always on the same team, but we have to take that into account. “There is,” he added. In some cases, you may need to gain access to unmanaged data from unmanaged locations, and vice versa. ”
